Buffalo Nickel Collection

The classic and beloved Buffalo Nickel was minted from 1913-1938. It celebrates the culture and heritage of the American West, and the designs are recognized as some of the most beautiful and artistic in U.S. history.

• The last coin was minted over 75 years ago in 1938.

• This collection features a custom album for the complete collection of Buffalo Nickels.  There are spaces for every coin (every year of issue and every mint mark).

• To get you started, the album comes with three Buffalo Nickels – one from each of the three mints that struck them (Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco).  The mint mark can be found below the denomination under the buffalo:  “D” is for the Denver Mint, “S” is for the San Francisco Mint, while no mark means it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint.

• The obverse is a composite portrait of three Native American chiefs.

• The reverse features a stunning image of a buffalo, Black Diamond, who was a star attraction at the New York Zoological Gardens.  The buffalo was a symbol of the American West, but it was almost extinct when the first Buffalo Nickel was made in 1913.
