Civil War Collection

The Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865.  The most destructive event in American history, it bitterly divided the nation. Even today, 150 years later, it remains one of the most fascinating and popular events, especially among collectors.

• This amazing 150th anniversary set includes a genuine U.S. coin from the Civil War era, as well as the complete set of five 100th anniversary stamps issued in 1961 to 1965.

• The 1859-1864 Indian Head Penny was issued in the Civil War era and was probably used during the Civil War 150 years ago.

• This was one of the first Indian Head Pennies ever struck by the U.S. Mint, and few remain today.

• The five stamps honor historic Civil War events: Fort Sumter (1861, the event that marked the start of the war), Shiloh (1862), Gettysburg (1863), Wilderness (1864), and the Confederate surrendered at Appomattox (1865) that ended the war.

• The stamps are up to 50 years old and have been unavailable in post offices since the early 1960’s.
