Cherished American Nickels

• The Liberty “V” Nickel and Buffalo Nickel were America’s Nickels before the Jefferson Nickel was introduced in 1938.  This set includes both cherished coins.

• The coins disappeared from circulation generations ago and are up to 100 years old and older.  Few coins remain today in collectible condition, so this is a rare chance to own both coins in a single collection.

• The Liberty Head “V” Nickel was first minted in 1883 and was last struck for circulation 100 years ago in 1912.

• The coin was designed by legendary U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber.

• The obverse features a portrait of Liberty surrounded by 13 stars to represent the 13 original states.  On the reverse, the Roman “V” (Roman “5”)  is contained within a wreath of cotton, corn, wheat, and tobacco.

• The Buffalo Nickel replaced the Liberty “V” Nickel in 1913 and was struck until 1938.

• This is one of the most beautiful and artistic coins in history.  A celebration of the American West, it was designed by famed American sculptor James Earle Fraser.

• The Native American on the obverse is a composite portrait of three chiefs, while the buffalo on the reverse was modeled after Black Diamond from the New York Zoological Gardens.
